1 Please note that the rate of $1,000 is to some extent arbitrary. Our point of view is that commitment needs to be demonstrated by sacrifice and behavior. This comes down to time and money.
And so, we require applicants at the start of their careers to demonstrate commitment. The time factor is perhaps even more important. Time is reflected in a simple and serious requirement: attendance at the monthly symposium / lecture is required, unless we're notified in advance. Two missed events within a year, without prior notification, will result in permanent exit from the MK Society.
Returning to money: for different people, the appropriate amount may vary. We do not want money to be a barrier.
However, it's critical that the amount is substantial enough that there's a touch of a sting to it: this demonstrates sacrifice for something costly and for good reason. The alumni of an annual cohort are your network for life. These and other things cannot be bought.
With that in mind, there will always be opportunities to set the amount as you see appropriate, if your circumstances vary significantly. In some cases, we've had applicants suggest a higher amount; in some cases lower.
Be honorable, and thank you for your understanding.
